On July 29, 2026, CCA hosted a discussion highlighting Nigeria's strategy tobecome a leading destination for critical minerals investment through economicreforms, stronger regulatory frameworks, and public-private partnerships. Mr.Martins Imonitie, Managing Director and CEO of Nigerian Solid Minerals Company(NSMC) emphasized that recent reforms including foreign exchangeliberalization, improved capital mobility, and the removal of fuel subsidieshave created a more predictable investment climate. A key initiative is theestablishment of the Nigerian Solid Minerals Company (NSMC), which will serveas a centralized "one-stop shop" to streamline licensing, reduceadministrative barriers, and facilitate responsible investment across themining sector.
The discussion also underscored Nigeria's abundant reserves of lithium, cobalt, copper, iron ore, gold, and tin, while emphasizing a commitment todeveloping domestic processing and value-added industries rather than exportingraw materials. It was stressed thattransparent regulation, long-term financing, technological innovation, workforce development, and partnerships with international investors and theNigerian diaspora will be critical to building a sustainable mining sector thatgenerates jobs, strengthens local economies, and positions Nigeria as a keyplayer in the global critical minerals supply chain.
