On Thursday, May 21, 2026, Corporate Council on Africa hosted a roundtable discussion titled “Nigeria Energy Sector Outlook” featuring Olu Verheijen and her delegation. The session brought together CCA members, including representatives from Chevron Corporation, Shell plc, and Omatapalo, and was moderated by CCA Board Member Jeannine Scott.

During the discussion, Ms. Verheijen highlighted key reforms and progress made by the Government of Nigeria under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen the country’s energy sector and improve the investment climate. She noted achievements including a $3 billion investment in gas infrastructure, increased LNG utilization of up to 80 percent, exchange rate reforms, deregulation of oil pricing, enhanced security measures, and greater participation of indigenous groups in the sector. She emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to attracting greater private sector partnership through investment in skills development, technology, entrepreneurial capacity, and resource development.

The roundtable also provided CCA members with the opportunity to engage directly with the delegation and ask questions on a broad range of energy sector issues and opportunities in Nigeria.
