On Thursday, May 9, Corporate Council on Africa hosted a thought-provoking panel called “The Business and Philanthropy Nexus: Driving Sustainable U.S.-Africa Partnerships.” The session aimed to explore the delicate relationship between business and philanthropy in developing long-term partnerships between the United States and Africa. Throughout the event, distinguished panelists from a variety of industries shared useful insights and viewpoints. Travis Adkins, President and CEO of the United States African Development Foundation, underlined the significance of localized partnerships and community-driven initiatives. He emphasized the foundation’s commitment to assisting African entrepreneurs and enterprises, particularly those in neglected areas, in order to spur economic growth from within. Graham Macmillan, President of the VISA Foundation, emphasized the importance of trust and risk-taking in promoting economic growth and innovation throughout Africa. He stressed the importance for philanthropic organizations to invest in entrepreneurs and technology with the potential to effect significant change on the continent. Varre Aline from the Niger Delta Partnership Initiative Foundation discussed the organization’s strategic approach to company growth and capacity building in the Niger Delta region. She underlined the necessity of working with local communities and forming partnerships to handle complicated issues and provide chances for sustainable development. Youssoufou Zouera, CEO of the Dangote Foundation, emphasized Africans’ ability to shape their own future. She underscored the foundation’s commitment to accelerating socioeconomic development in Africa through strategic investments and partnerships that empower local communities and promote inclusive growth. Ndidi Nwuneli, President and CEO of One Campaign, discussed the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in addressing the continent’s most pressing concerns. She underlined the importance of collaboration among corporations, philanthropic groups, and governments in driving sustainable development and creating long-term impact. Kofi Appenteng, President and CEO of The Africa-America Institute, emphasized the need of trust and collaboration in developing strong partnerships between Africa and the United States. He underlined the importance of increasing investment in education, economic empowerment, and community development in order for Africa to reach its full potential.
