Africa's Emerging Investment Frontiers

On April 14, 2026, Corporate Council on Africa, in partnership with BridgeKonekt, convened a roundtable discussion on Africa's emerging investment frontiers, bringing together senior representatives from leading multilateral financial institutions, private investors, and government officials. The discussion centered on the evolving landscape of international investment in Africa — identifying key barriers, structural opportunities, and the financing mechanisms needed to move from dialogue to deal-making.

A highlight of the roundtable was the participation of Senegal's Minister of Economy, who outlined Senegal's strategic position as a compelling investment destination anchored by institutional stability, regional integration, and a new phase of development marked by the commencement of hydrocarbon production. The Minister emphasized the importance of macroeconomic stability, legal certainty, and improved project bankability as prerequisites for attracting sustained private capital, while candidly acknowledging constraints including limited access to financing, high energy costs, and administrative burdens. Participants also explored the role of blended finance and multilateral cooperation — including through the AMFI platform and the newly launched African Infrastructure Financial Facility — in de-risking projects and crowding in private investment across priority sectors including renewables, technology, manufacturing, and agriculture.

The conversation reflected a broader shift in Africa's investment narrative — from potential to performance, partnership, and profit — with the African Continental Free Trade Area's $3.4 trillion single market framing much of the strategic optimism in the room. Looking ahead, participants pointed to the upcoming US Africa Business Summit in Port Louis, Mauritius this July as a key moment for translating the roundtable's insights into concrete investment commitments.
